The initiative allows under 11s to watch the action at Nyewood Lane and comes about thanks to a partnership with local food producers and global distributors Barfoots
Bognor player Matt Burgess, formerly with Premier League side AFC Bournemouth, and project organiser James Rufey were on hand last week to tell children and teachers at Southway Primary School all about the scheme. The duo has already visited Nyewood CofE Junior School and plan to visit more schools in the area in a bid to spread awareness of the project.
James said he was thrilled to be able to spread the word. He said: “It was brilliant to go to the school and showcase the football club and this fantastic offer from Barfoots of free entry for under 11s.
“The presentation went down a storm with the pupils and teachers — one of whom, Dan Austin, helped organise the event — and the verdict from one delighted child: ‘The best assembly ever!’ The children were absolutely brilliant in absorbing all we told them and there was even a keepy-uppy challenge that kept them entertained too! All round a huge success!”
Matt, who joined the Rocks last summer, said: “It was really great to go to the school and talk football and help promote the scheme — we look forward to seeing many of the youngsters at club in the future.”
