Bognor shipped seven goals and were 6 – 0 down at half time against an impressive Chatham Town side at Nyewood Lane, as Bognor fell to the very bottom of the Isthmian Premier League.

A long early pass over the top by Spencer Spurway was ran onto by Dan Gifford but he pushed over Reece Butler during his bursting run into the area.

Debut man, Siya Ligendza, combined with Gifford but won a corner in the end on 4 minutes.

Jordan Robins fired over the bar on 7 minutes after good work from John Ufua who forced a parried save by Ryan Hall in the build up.

Ex-Rock Jordy Mongoy, always a danger on the right, found Jack Evans and his curling attempt from 20 yards was pushed away again by Hall soon after.

Evans found Rowan Liburd in the box, who headed it down to Freddie Sears and his effort was pushed away just around the post by Hall as Bognor were under serious pressure early on.

Bognor went behind on 11 minutes as Kasim Aidoo latched onto a poor ball out from the Bognor’s defenders after Jack Evans’s freekick on the right.

Matt Burgess spun in a corner in response on 13 minutes.  Harvey Whyte miscued it but Tommy Block, on the turn, hit the right upright as Bognor were in need of a goal.

Gifford did well to win a corner on the left with his run after a good pass by Tommy-Lee Higgs.  Burgess hit it at the near post but was headed away.

Reece Butler scythed a pass through the heart of the Bognor defence and all John Ufua had to do was run through and fire it in low into the bottom right corner on 20 minutes, to extend Chatham’s lead.

Hayden Gale did well to beat his man on the left before crossing it onto the boot of Gifford who swerved it narrowly over the bar with his first touch on 22 minutes.

Ufuah did well to use his pace and strength and dug out a low cross to Evans who hit it rising just over as he slid in.

Calvin Davies curled the ball into the box with his freekick but Block’s headed chance looped up and hit the top netting.

Bognor conceded again on 27 minutes.  Ufuah sped through again as Bognor’s defence slipped up and he hit it low from the edge of the box, which beat Hall as the visitors were flying.

Mongoy committed Hall into another save and then Gale gifted the ball back to the player.  However, Mongoy, skied his follow up chance with the goalkeeper stranded, shooting high over the bar.

Whyte when into the book for a late challenge and then Mongoy held up the ball after a freekick was awarded to Bognor and he saw yellow as well on 31 minutes.

Jack Evans hit a freekick directly in from the left on 36 minutes as Chatham made it 4 – 0 and were looking comfortable in the first half at Nyewood Lane.

Bognor were having a nightmare as a back pass was picked up by Hall even though it came off the boot of a Chatham player and a freekick was awarded to Chatham.  Freddie Sears hit the low freekick at goal but Spencer Spurway couldn’t keep it out on the line on 40 minutes.

Evans fired in a wonderful long range strike from Chatham to make it six on 42 minutes as it got worse for Bognor.

HT 0 – 6

Liburd set up Evans who curled it at goal and forced Hall into a parried save.  Luckily the ball fell to a Bognor defender and they cleared it.

Jasper Mather, who came on at half time to replace Higgs, ran inside from the left but his low effort was easily saved at his near post by Joseph Wright who was having a quiet afternoon.

Spurway fired another ball well wide as Bognor had a rare attack on goal on 55 minutes, following a corner.

Evans hit another dangerous freekick into the box and it was knocked down into the path of Freddie Sears who lashed it home on 64 minutes.

Gifford had a rare chance as he ran through off the right flank and his strike bounced off the defender as Bognor were lacklustre in response with the game being dead by half time.

Burgess hit the left upright on 74 minutes as he received a square pass from the right as he curled it around his defender from outside the box.

Bognor did get a goal back as a super ball through for the run of debutant Ligendza saw him hit it low and in on 78 minutes to give Bognor a meagre consolation.

Ligendza went into the book on 81 minutes as he slid in late with a loose challenge as Bognor were seeking further consolation.

Burgess fed Legendza, who did well to get a powerful shot at goal from 25 yards.  It was always rising though over the crossbar on 86 minutes, in a marginally better half from Bognor.

It was a day to forget. Bognor were truly outplayed here though in one of the worst first half performances in recent history for the club.  They are on the road next to Dartford on Saturday 7th December with kick off at 3pm in search of an important win.
