Rocks secured two wins on the trot as Callum Laycock and Kash Kasukumya got on the scoresheet to move the team up to 12th in the Isthmian League South Central Division.
Kingstonian started well with plenty of possession in the early stages. Jamie Hilton hit the ball powerfully into the area on 5 minutes but it was well gathered by Dan Lincoln.
Dennis Kelmendi hit the first effort on goal with a bouncing effort in the 9th minute but again Lincoln saved it.
Kelmendi’s corner was inswinging and Lincoln had to punch it out again, as it was all Kingstonian in the opening moments.
Bognor gave away a freekick just outside the box on 15 minutes but Sean O’Brien’s strike was hit it into the wall and then Joel Brown followed this up with his own chance but was again charged down.
Brown went into the book on 17 minutes for a foul in the heart of midfield as Bognor tried to respond to the visitors’ impressive start.
A rare Bognor attack saw them win a freekick around 25 yards out. Matt Jones curled the ball in but Liam Allen gathered it high into the box. Following the clearance though it was good work from Danny Jordan to win the ball back and find Billy Allcock inside the box but after giving himself space, his low strike rolled side of the far post on 23 minutes.
O’Brien dragged another low shot wide from outside the area in response after finding space in front of the Bognor defence on 30 minutes.
Allen lost possession outside his area and it was Preston Woolston who spotted him off his goal line to shoot. But the ball floated over the crossbar on 34 minutes.
Handball appeals were ignored after Jones swung in another corner when Chad Field headed it at goal and a defender blocked it.
Jones knocked a long ball forward and it was headed into the path of Callum Laycock but his long distance shot flew well wide on 38 minutes.
A wonderful move saw Rocks taking the leading in the 42nd minute. A swift run down the left flank by Seok-Jae Lee saw him curl the ball straight into the path of Laycock and he controlled it with his right boot before smashing it into the net with his left.
Bognor extended their lead when Jones’ corner bounced awkwardly into the box and it was flicked on by Laycock at the near post and Kash Kasukumya diverted it beyond a flailing and diving Liam Allen who pushed it finally into the net 2 minutes into first half stoppage time.
HT 2 – 0
Bognor started well and had a chance just two minutes into the restart as Jordan sped inside from the right to shoot but he hit the side netting.
Yoan Edoukou did well to run down the left side but his low strike rolled harmlessly wide of the goal in the 55th minute.
Bognor did well as Kasukumya did well to play it square but an onrushing Jordan, who fired it low, but it was blocked on the goal line.
Then Kelmendi sped through again down the middle of the pitch but, under pressure, his low strike was easily saved by Lincoln.
Rocky Williams went into the book for a late challenge on Billy Allcock. Jones stepped up to belt the ball over the wall but it was saved by Allen on 62 minutes.
Jordan had another shot denied with a low chance from the edge of the box, with Allen equal to it down to his left.
Kelmendi got a corner after a swift counter attack. Williams took the corner from the right but Field headed it away again as Rocks looked solid in defence at every opportunity the K’s generated.
Hilton combined with O’Brien to see the latter get a shot away from outside the box but his effort flashed high and wide on 72 minutes.
Laycock was on the turn looking for a penalty but that was deemed a fair tackle by the referee on 78 minutes. Jamie Howell on the touchline also got a stern talking to from the official but avoided a booking.
Then Kelmendi, always a threat, ran at the defence before firing wildly and wide of the goal.
Toby Kingswell and Lennie Smith, off the bench in the closing minutes, combined to tee up Woolston with a strike. His effort curled high over the bar though.
A long run deep into stoppage time from Smith was good and his eventual destination in the box saw him be unselfish to play it square to Lee but he was denied with a block.
Bognor though we’re deserved winners here and will be pleased as well with their defensive display at Oaklands Park. They will be on the road next as they travel to Westfield in the league on Saturday 1st November with kick off at 3pm.
