The Rocks have issued an update on the progress being made in the £1.3million project that will see the synthetic surface replace the grass — along with new floodlights being erected as well as a full refurbishment of the changing rooms.

The team managed by Michael Birmingham and Jamie Howell will play ‘home’ games at Chichester City’s Oaklands Park ground while the work is undertaken. They may have to wait until mid-December to return to action in PO21.

Bognor kick off the new Isthmian South Central division campaign at AFC Portchester on August 9 and then have away games at Littlehampton, Harrow Borough and Horndean before hosting Leatherhead in Chichester on August 30.

Committee member Russ Chandler, who heads up the project, says: “The grass has been killed in preparation for its removal.

“The programme of works started whilst the drainage design — which will require a new surface water system put in place to meet the closest position on Nyewood Lane — is finalised.

“Labosports, who are acting on the club’s behalf, are back leading on this with the council.”
