Bognor U14 Girls Green began the year with a 5-3 win against Worthing United to progress to the quarter finals of the Sussex County League Cup in an all Premier League clash at the Arun Leisure Centre.
And Bognor, playing in their new alternative orange and black strip courtesy of additional sponsors LKQ Euro Car Parts, were worthy winners.
A mix up in the Bognor defence on 15 minutes saw Maria O intercept a back pass and round the keeper to make it 0-1 to the visitors against the early run of play.
United pressed forward and on 22 minutes attacked down the right and Maria O got her second for 0-2. Emily C got Bognor back in it with a long-range drive and then got her second to make it level at half time after good work from Isabelle E.
Bognor went in front in the 47th minute. A stinging long range shot from Harriet R was saved, but the rebound fell to the alert Maria S, who stabbed home.
Moments later a through ball from Clara C found debutant Ava W up front for Bognor, and her sharp turn took her one on one with the advancing goalkeeper, and she just got to the ball first to give Bognor some breathing space at 4-2.
A lack of communication in the Bognor defence allowed Maria O to step in and complete her hat trick in the 62nd minute for 4-3 and the game was in the balance. Ava W made the game safe with her second neat finish, minutes from time for 5-3.
Bognor progress to the quarter finals and a clash with Peacehaven and Telscombe.
