The young Rockettes lost 7-6 on penalties after drawing 2-2 at the MKM Arena on Sunday and despite the loss they were superb in this the toughest fixture in their history.

Bognor made a fantastic start with a 1-0 lead in the first half thanks to a great corner from Layla. They continued to fight throughout the second half with Lillie scoring a screamer with an assist from keeper Leya.

At around 60 minutes Bognor started to tire, they played their hearts out but conceded two goals and the game went to a penalty shootout.

Both teams scored four spot kicks out of five and took it to sudden death with the visitors prevailing.

Lauren Bromley, one of the side’s coaches along with Billy and Simon, said: “The girls went out 7-6 on penalties in the end but walked off with their heads held high. It was a fantastic result for a grassroots team against an academy squad and a great example to set for the women’s pathway.

“Thank you to all of those who travelled to support and to Brighton for a fantastic game and great sportsmanship both from players and coaches. Well done girls, you did the club proud.”
